Laverne is an approximately 1-2 year-old,  49 pound female Shepherd mix. Sweet, shy Laverne is doing excellent work in her foster home learning her puppy manners, exploring local parks, playing with her new dog friends and gaining confidence every day!

Laverne loves to hang out in the backyard, sunning herself and playing with toys as well as playing chase and tag with her 2-legged foster sister. Indoors, Laverne is a bit more reserved, preferring to hang out in a quiet corner on her bed or lounging on the couch watching TV with one of her trusted humans. She thrives on structure and and has learned the family's daily schedule.

Leash walking is a new activity for Laverne. She has been doing lots of practicing at Lake Vasona and local San Jose parks, where she loves to greet everyone, both 2 and 4-legged. While out at the lake, Laverne loves to watch the birds and trees, and will try to catch the busy ground squirrels and geese!

Laverne has recently been demonstrating how smart a nd social she can be! She loves to learn new behaviors, and has started to ask for what she wants, even having fun conversations with her foster family! She loves to visit her favorite dog friends at the park, and loves to play chase and plays extremely well with other friendly dogs, large and small. Daily walks and exploration time are very important for this active young girl. She would benefit form high quality, positive reinforcement training and even agility or nose work.

Laverne would do well in a home with one or two other dogs who can show Laverne how to be a loved and confident pup. She loves having an older child in the home, and enjoys spending time playing and snuggling with her humans.

Due to her history, Laverne struggles with some fears, but is making excellent progress with the help of anti-anxiety medication and a loving, stable home.

Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.
