Silicon Valley Pet Project (SVPP) rescues dogs of all ages and breeds from our local animal shelters. We partner with San Jose Animal Care Center, TriCity Animal Shelter, and County of Santa Clara Animal Services. We rescue special needs dogs who require significant medical and behavioral support which they do not receive in the shelter environment.  All dogs are placed in foster care where they live in private homes of our volunteer foster parents. SVPP provides for all of their medical, behavioral needs, and covers all expenses for their care while in foster care.

Our foster program is supported by professional and skilled staff to include:

  • A Foster Program Manager with significant rescue, animal care and behavior/training experience
  • A general vet practice (VCA Blossom Hill) with extensive experience and compassion for rescue work (led by a former BOD member and current vet advisor, Dr. Stacy Hare)
  • A behavior advisory team and local dog training partners
  • An in-home euthanasia vet (Dr. Jeni Goedken) for our hospice cases
  • A team of volunteers dedicated to supporting foster parents and their needs every step of the way

Foster parents are provided education and training via our team of experts. In addition our foster parents have access to a proprietary Dog Foster Program portal with extensive informative resources collected over years of rescue work. Foster parents provide feedback in the adoption process to help ensure the best possible home for the pet they have cared for.

Fostering a pet in need with SVPP requires not only a significant commitment to our cause, but patience and understanding that healing takes time. Fostering is a labor of love and we often don't know how a rescue journey will end. In some cases, SVPP cares for special needs dogs until the end of their life (fospice) and works as a team to ensure that their quality of life is the top priority.

If you are a caregiver at heart, have not only a love for dogs, but dog care taking experience, please consider fostering a dog in need today!
